The Union Cabinet has recently approved the rationalization of Centrally Sponsored Schemes under the Ministry of Agriculture into two umbrella programs: Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and Krishonnati Yojana (KY). This move aims to streamline efforts and ensure a comprehensive agricultural strategy across states.
Why Rationalization is Needed
Strategic Planning: By converging schemes and providing flexibility, states can tailor plans to suit their agricultural needs.
Efficiency: Annual Action Plans (AAP) will be approved at once, eliminating the need for scheme-wise approvals.
Focus on Key Challenges: The schemes will tackle critical issues like nutrition security, sustainability, climate resilience, and private sector participation.
About PM-RKVY
Objective: To promote sustainable agriculture through initiatives like Soil Health Management and Rainfed Area Development.
Key Change: States have the flexibility to reallocate funds as per their specific needs.
About Krishonnati Yojana (KY)
Objective: To achieve food security and agricultural self-sufficiency in India.
It includes initiatives like the National Food Security Mission and the Digital Agriculture Mission.
The North Eastern component, Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) will offer flexibility to address regional challenges.
