Customized courses will be available for two candidates from each member state
India's commitment to promoting women's participation in United Nations Peacekeeping (UNPK) operations and strengthening defence cooperation with ASEAN countries is set to materialize through two upcoming initiatives. Following Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's proposal, India will conduct tailor-made courses for women peacekeepers from ASEAN member states at the Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) in September. This initiative, part of the 'India-ASEAN initiative for women in UNPK operations,' aims to train a total of 20 peacekeepers, with two representatives from each country.
Additionally, in December, a table top exercise focusing on UNPK challenges will be organized specifically for women officers from ASEAN. As of now, India is one of the largest troop-contributing nations to UNPK, with around 5,900 troops deployed across 12 UN missions. Since India's participation in peacekeeping missions, it has contributed 275,000 troops and unfortunately, 159 Indian Army soldiers have lost their lives while serving around the world. The initiatives highlight India's dedication to fostering women's empowerment and enhancing peacekeeping efforts in collaboration with ASEAN.
