In response to alarming reports of cyber slavery, India's telecom ministry has taken action by disconnecting 2.17 crore mobile connections. Cyber slavery represents a new and dangerous form of human exploitation that begins with online deception and can lead to physical human trafficking. This emerging organized crime involves offenders luring victims with fake job offers, only to force them into illegal activities.
Recently, over 5,000 Indians were reported to be trapped in Southeast Asia, specifically in Laos and Cambodia, where they are allegedly being coerced into carrying out cyber fraud.
Efforts are being ramped up globally to combat this severe form of exploitation, but the rising scale and sophistication of cyber slavery demand urgent attention.
