Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR), located in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris District, recently became the habitat of two critically endangered amphibians—Micrixalus spelunca (cave dancing frog) and Nyctibatrachus indraneili (Indraneil’s Night Frog). These rare species add to the ecological richness of this reserve.
About MTRMTR is part of the larger Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, which includes Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (Kerala), Bandipur National Park (Karnataka), and Mukurthi National Park. The Moyar River runs through it, supporting a variety of forest types, including tropical evergreen, moist deciduous, and teak forests. MTR is known for its rich biodiversity, with key species like tigers, elephants, and the Indian Gaur.
