QUAD Nations Unite for Cancer Moonshot Initiative in the Indo-Pacific

The QUAD countries—India, the United States, Australia, and Japan—have launched the Cancer Moonshot Initiative to enhance cancer care across the Indo-Pacific region. This collaborative effort aims to boost the region's health infrastructure, advance research partnerships, and improve cancer prevention and treatment.

What is the Cancer Moonshot Initiative?

The Cancer Moonshot Initiative focuses on creating a stronger cancer care ecosystem in the Indo-Pacific. Its objectives include promoting HPV vaccinations to combat cervical cancer, increasing access to cancer screenings, and expanding the range of available treatment options. By leveraging shared expertise and resources, the initiative strives to reduce cancer rates and improve overall healthcare outcomes.

India’s Contribution

India is playing a significant role in this initiative, with the government pledging $7.5 million towards cancer testing, screening, and diagnostics in the Indo-Pacific. Additionally, India is supporting the radiotherapy treatment and capacity building efforts in the region. Further, through its $10 million contribution to the WHO’s Global Initiative on Digital Health, India is providing technical assistance on digital public infrastructure for cancer screening, care, and continuity to countries that seek it.

This collaborative initiative marks a critical step forward in addressing the growing cancer burden in the Indo-Pacific, leveraging the strengths of the QUAD nations to build a healthier, cancer-free future.
