Hurricane Helene, previously a powerful storm, has been downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone. While it has lost its tropical characteristics, it can still bring heavy rains and strong winds.
What is a Post-Tropical Cyclone?
A post-tropical cyclone refers to a storm that no longer has the tropical features required to be classified as a tropical cyclone. However, it can remain dangerous, often bringing severe weather. Post-tropical cyclones fall into two categories:
Extra-tropical cyclones, which have fully transitioned into non-tropical weather systems.
Remnant lows, where the storm has weakened but still persists without the convective structure of a tropical cyclone.
Despite the downgrade, post-tropical cyclones can still pose threats, especially in terms of rainfall and wind.
